"Hüsch's Landkost" has something to celebrate! Nestled in the small town of Rosenheim, the butcher shop celebrates its 65th anniversary on October 26th. What began as a small business run by the Hüsch couple has evolved over the decades into a flagship for quality and taste. Now, in keeping with the anniversary, the shop is shining in new splendor.
Rosenheim. Founded in 1959 by Hermann, who would have turned 100 this year, and Marlene Hüsch, the family business has established itself over three generations as a guarantor of the highest quality and traditional craftsmanship. Hüsch Butcher Shop has received numerous awards for its outstanding work, most recently the Rhineland-Palatinate State Award for particularly high-quality meat and sausage products.
To mark this anniversary, the Hüschs have undertaken an extensive renovation of their shop, taking the butcher shop in a modern, environmentally conscious, and future-oriented direction. Over the past ten weeks, the sales area has been completely renovated, including a new, energy-efficient refrigerated counter, a modern refrigeration system, and a complete air conditioning system throughout the shop. The old counters, which had been in use for a proud 28 years and used outdated cooling systems, were replaced with more environmentally friendly alternatives that meet current sustainability and environmental protection requirements.
But that's not all: thanks to the renovation, the store was also expanded – the former garage now serves as additional sales space. The entire process was supported by regional tradespeople, while project management was in the hands of the junior boss and grandson of the founding family, who, thanks to forward-thinking planning, completed the renovation smoothly.
However, all these measures come as no surprise to loyal customers: the butcher shop has always placed particular emphasis on sustainable concepts. In addition to photovoltaic systems and heat recovery systems, the shop uses mono-packaging, which, unlike composite materials, is fully recyclable. This demonstrates that practicality takes precedence over aesthetics, and that environmental protection is becoming increasingly important.
Despite modernization, the Westerwald butcher shop "Hüsch's Landkost" remains true to its traditional values and continues to produce all meat and sausage products in-house. Customers appreciate the high quality of the products, the fresh processing, and the personal service. The family's goal is to continue to meet the high expectations of its customers while offering a modern, contemporary ambiance.
For the anniversary on Saturday, October 26, the butcher shop invites all customers to join in the celebrations. From 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., visitors can tour the newly designed shop, enjoy anniversary specials, and indulge in culinary specialties. The program includes a welcome glass of sparkling wine, appetizers, and freshly grilled anniversary sausages starting at 10:00 a.m. Pulled pork burgers and a generously filled anniversary bag await guests. The Hüsch family is using this special day to thank their loyal customers for their trust and support over six decades.
Butcher shops like Hüsch stand for regionality, craftsmanship, and the highest quality standards. With this renovation, they have now ventured into the future without losing sight of their roots and the values of a traditional family business.
Every day, the food industry in Rhineland-Palatinate supplies thousands of people with delicious bread and rolls, cakes and ice cream, tasty sausages, and a tasty beer. These are foods to savor, for those little sweet moments in everyday life, produced with artisanal care and regional ingredients, and offering people a special taste experience.
As a sign of special appreciation for these outstanding food artisans, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate is awarding the “State Honorary Prize in Gourmet Crafts” for the second time this year in
The "State Honorary Award for Gourmet Crafts 2024" is awarded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate to outstanding food craft businesses that are regionally rooted, pursue sustainable concepts, and meet social requirements such as training and social commitment. The award explicitly honors artisanal production and the values of a craft business.
The food industry plays a vital role in the lives of everyone in Rhineland-Palatinate, both economically and culturally. As an employer, it strengthens the region, especially the rural areas of the state. Gourmet food crafts train young people and offer them career prospects. They preserve and promote knowledge of the artisanal production methods of regional products. In addition, a bakery, butcher shop, or café is often a social meeting place in many villages and towns.
The awards ceremony was held on Mainz's market square as part of the Sunday shopping season. Visitors had the opportunity to taste bread, meet the national team of butchers, and learn a wealth of interesting facts about the quality of artisanal food products.
The award was fiercely contested, especially among bakers and butchers – only the best were honored.
We are proud to be one of this year’s honorary award winners and to be able to use the quality seal.
Despite the structural changes in the gourmet food industry, artisanal producers that produce high-quality products have excellent market prospects. Consumers value freshness, taste, service, and proximity to customers. On April 15, we were honored as winners of the "Meat and Sausage Culture Masterpieces" competition. As gourmet ambassadors from the Westerwald region, we were honored with a total of seven gold awards for our Waller specialties.
Our Westerwald masterpieces won 7 gold medals:
Kettle-fresh meat sausage, spicy farmer's salami, mild country farmer's ham, crispy country mettwurst, Westerwälder Stracke, Mediterranean ham biters and tender butcher's cooked ham.
The Masterpiece Competition for "Meat and Sausage Culture" in the butcher trade took place on March 4. 111 businesses from across Germany participated in the nationwide competition. Jurors from the Butchers' Association examined 762 artisanal products from the applicants based on extensive criteria, primarily flavor. The jury consisted of 44 judges and five senior judges.
Butcher's trade, Hüschs Landkost – Westerwald Metzgerei, the Hüsch family from Rosenheim will be awarded the “Rhineland-Palatinate 2023 State Prize for Gourmet Crafts” by Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt.
Koblenz, May 14, 2023.
That hard work pays off was demonstrated at the SBS Premium Innovation Meeting of regiowelt in early October 2022. There, the Hüsch butcher shop was awarded, among other things, the Gourmet Prize for outstanding quality, maximum reliability, and creative ideas. The Westerwald butcher shop is a local business with a long tradition that places great emphasis on regionality and sustainability.
The family's successful operation of a catering and party service also earned them the award. Thanks to its high-quality and reliable service, the Hüsch butcher shop is already well ahead of the competition.
Our sales representative Dorina Poppe is celebrating her 20th anniversary in our butcher shop in August.
Many people know her from our fresh produce truck, with which she makes our customers happy every week from Tuesday to Friday!
